An interview with Ivan Smolnikov, CEO of ABBYY Language Services, has been published in the August issue of Globalization Insider, the international language industry magazine published by LISA.
Since 1992, Globalization Insider has been publishing articles, studies and interviews on commercial, technical and financial issues related to globalization and international business. In this interview, Ivan and a LISA representative discussed such issues as the current state of the localization market, advantages and challenges of multilingual localization in Russia, and the role of technology in the globalization industry.
“The main advantage of the leading Russian translation and localization companies is lower costs”, Ivan said. “The cost of TEP (translation, editing, proofreading) should be almost the same for all companies when performed by native speakers of the target language, no matter where these companies are located. By having our headquarters in Russia, we have the following competitive advantages: lower project and general management expenses, lower taxes, and, in our case, strong technological advancement, e.g., automation of routine operations when working on a project. Our technology intensive approach and comparatively lower costs for technology and software development allow us to develop new customized technologies for handling complex projects and to reduce the end customer's costs.”

According to LISA, the leading international localization association, ABBYY Language Services is one of the 5 largest, best known and successful language services providers in Russia (out of more than 800 existing companies).
